No, seriously, let’s get this show on the road.
If there is one thing I can rarely be accused of, it is self-satisfaction. In this site’s three years of existence, I have fully mocked up no fewer than 18 designs for it, only three of which somehow found their way online. Ironically, the last of these was thrown together in less than an hour—a stripped-down, panicked replacement for an expired version I couldn’t stand to look at anymore. This “temporary” solution has now enjoyed a longer life than both of its predecessors combined, while indifferently watching the site it serves slowly grind to a halt over the course of the last year.
So, what went wrong? On the contrary, what went right?
As much as I don’t like the fact that I’ve been neglecting my site for so long, my time away has been well-spent. My work habits and creative methods have undergone some much-needed renovation, and while they are still by no means perfect, they have grown more disciplined and focused. I’m moving away from painting myself into corners, and toward more carefully considered solutions. Consequently, I’m learning to love design again instead of being incessantly and intensely frustrated by it.
With all this in mind, now seems like a good time to revisit this site, so that’s what I’m doing. Version 4 is currently in production and is expected to be online sometime in February, loaded with fun new features in addition to an updated portfolio and the usual ramblings about art, design, music, and film. In the meantime, sign up for my mailing list if you’d like to be notified of the relaunch (This is probably the only time the list will even be used, and I promise not to do anything unsavory with your email address).
Last but not least, be sure to check out Virtual Stan, a Christmas gift for a dear friend.
